DILG IV-A CONDUCTS ORIENTATION-BRIEFING ON MAINSTREAMING GENDER IN DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
In recognition of the strong relationship between gender equality and disaster preparedness, DILG IV-A being a key player in CALABARZON’s gender responsive governance and disaster preparedness, recently spearheaded an activity dubbed as Mainstreaming Gender and Disaster Preparedness.
Said activity which was held last June 11, 2015 at Montevista Resort in Calamba City was attended by all the personnel of the DILG IV-A Regional Office. This is to enhance the capacities and knowledge of the DILG employees to anticipate and respond effectively to the impact of imminent or current hazards and conditions. Further, the activity also intends to ensure that gender principles are mainstreamed in preparedness efforts of the region.
The orientation in Montevista is the first part of the Mainstreaming Gender in Disaster Preparedness wherein the DILG IV-A personnel were briefed on Emergency Preparedness Training such Basic Life Support/First Aid Training, and Fire and Earthquake Drill Orientation. Follow-up activity includes the actual Fire and Earthquake Drill which will be held at the DILG IV-A Regional Office in the CALABARZON Regional Government Center (CRGC) in Brgy. Mapagong, Calamba City.
Resource persons during the activity were Dr. Voltaire Guadalupe and RN Joehl Francisco from Department of Health (DOH) IV-A who discussed First Aid Key Concepts and Skills; FO2 Daryl Nunag and Fire Inspector Benjie Caca of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) IV-A who discussed Fire Safety and Fire Suppression, and demonstrated how to extinguish a fire; and Mr. Alex Czar Masiglat and Mr. Larry Haveria from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) IV-A who discussed Earthquake and Fire Drill Orientation as well as the Creation of Disaster Control Group.
