The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), together with the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP), reminds candidates for the 2019 Midterm Elections to not give in to New People's Army's (NPA) extortion scheme during local campaign period.

In a joint press statement, DILG and ULAP "remind all candidates running for public office in the 2019 election that financing the NPA and their terror activities will make them criminally and administratively liable under our laws."

With the upcoming campaign period for elective local government officials starting March 30 for the midterm polls on May 13, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is requiring all incumbent governors and mayors to create a Local Governance Transition Team not later than April 8.

DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año says that it is imperative to prepare for an effective turnover of responsibility to ensure continuity in local governance.

Reacting to the call of MNLF Founding Chairman Nur Misuari for the President to deliver on his promise to shift to a federal system of government, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said that the government’s advocacy for a federal system has never wavered and that it is now working with other government agencies in finalizing the details of the Bayanihan Federalism model developed by the Consultative Committee to Review the 1987 Constitution.
