Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos today donated 10 motorcycles to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) Motorcycle Riding Academy in a bid to decrease motorcycle-related accidents in Metro Manila.

“I’m in full support of the MMDA and the Motorcycle Riding Academy.

Each motorcycle unit, a Honda Beat 110 FI Standard (Automatic), is personally donated by the DILG Secretary to support MMDA’s newly established Motorcycle Riding Academy, which will officially open on September 27.

“Sana makatulong itong mga motor na ito sa lalong paglago ng Motorcycle Riding Academy ng MMDA,” he said.

According to the MMDA Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System, motorcycle riders were among the biggest number of road crash fatalities in 2018, accounting for around 38% of the 590 total fatalities. In 2020 and 2021, there were 253 and 295 fatalities, respectively.

MMDA Acting Chairman Don Artes thanked the DILG chief for his continuous support to MMDA.
