Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos has called on the people to rise from the damages brought by supertyphoon Carina by joining the weekly clean-up drive, and using the activity as perfect time to inculcate the value of cleanliness to their children.

He said super typhoon Carina brought strong winds and heavy rains in CAMANAVA area that caused a barge to hit a floodgate.

Nagkasabay-sabay ito kaya ang Malabon at Navotas ay talagang tinamaan nang husto,” he explained.

Abalos issued the statement during the KALINISAN clean-up drive at Brgy. Tinajeros, Malabon City on Saturday morning.

He was joined in the activity by representatives from Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), other government offices, and local city officials led by Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval.

Noong bagyong Carina, bumalik sa atin ang basurang itinapon natin, pinabayaan natin,” he said.

He continued: “Kaya sa programang KALINISAN ng ating Pangulo, dapat ay maging kaugalian na ang paglilinis para on your own i-segregate mo na, itapon ito sa tamang basurahan.”

This, as Abalos expressed hope that all local government units throughout the country will actively participate in the weekly KALINISAN program, and the people will make cleanliness a habit.

Ito na ang magandang pamana natin sa ating mga anak,” he said.

Meanwhile, the MMDA has assured that the repair of Malabon-Navotas navigational gate is a top priority and is progressing in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Malabon City Mayor Sandoval thanked the DILG and all the participants who joined the KALINISAN program in the city.

They cleaned the surroundings, dredged canals, removed trees, hauled garbage, and emptied mosquito breeding areas.
