The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Wednesday urged the 112 newly sworn star-rank generals of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to be good examples of professionalism, discipline, and integrity as they took their oath before President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at the Heroes Hall in Malacañang Palace.

In his speech during the oathtaking, the President said the public expects reforms in the PNP that will make it more capable, more responsive, and corruption-free. He also urged the police force to prioritize dialogue and establish a bond of mutual respect and support with other sectors of society.

“There should be zero tolerance for corruption and human rights abuses,” he stressed. He, however, vowed to provide the PNP with the latest technologies and trainings to enable it to maintain the peace, stability, and well-being of the public.

Abalos urged them to help the PNP in becoming highly credible, effective, and credible police service by being role models who live by their commitment to serve and protect the citizenry.

“Inaasahan ng ating Mahal na Pangulo at ng ating mga mamamayan na mas paghuhusayin n’yo pa ang inyong trabaho sa pagsugpo sa kriminalidad, iligal na droga at iba pang krimen. Asahan n’yo rin ang paggabay at suporta ng inyong DILG sa pagtupad ninyo sa inyong mabigat na tungkulin at responsibilidad,” he said.

Of the 112 new generals, 55 new generals were sworn in on Wednesday, in addition to the 57 who took their oath Tuesday last week.

The second batch of generals comprise one Police Lieutenant General (three star); 7 Police Major Generals (two star); and 47 Police Brigadier Generals (one star).

Last September 19, the President administered the oath to the first batch of 57 newly promoted PNP officials consisting of four lieutenant generals, 10 major generals, and 43 brigadier generals.
