DILG IV-A PARTNERS WITH GARDENIA BAKERIES INC. TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN THE CITY OF CALAMBA

JOSE RIZAL COLISEUM, BRGY. REAL, CALAMBA CITY, LAGUNA—In a significant step towards cleaner and healthier communities, the DILG IV-A officially inked a partnership with Gardenia Bakeries Inc. on July 26, 2024.

The Gardenia Plastic Collection Drive Program, which forms part of the DILG IV-A Local Government Regional Resource Center Multi-Sectoral Advisory Committee (LGRRC-MSAC) activities, aims to improve solid waste management practices by implementing a bartering system where communities can exchange soft plastics for Gardenia Food Products.

Present to sign the memorandum of agreement were DILG IV-A Assistant Regional Director Darrell I. Dizon CESO V, Gardenia Bakeries Inc. Customer Relations Manager Mary Ann Cabrera, and Customer Relations Assistant Manager Quennie C. Alquinto witnessed by City Government of Calamba Executive Assistant II Jane Rizal-Mejia.

The event saw other key officials supporting the initiative, such as DILG IV-A LGMED OIC-Division Chief Gilberto L. Tumamac; DILG Laguna Cluster A Head Maria Lorilyn V. Manrique; DILG Calamba City Local Government Operations Officer (CLGOO) Jennifer S. Quirante, 163 officials and community members from the 10 pilot barangays within the City of Calamba, to wit:

  • Brgy. Palingon;
  • Brgy. Lingga;
  • Brgy. Sampiruhan;
  • Brgy. San Juan;
  • Brgy. 6;
  • Brgy. 5;
  • Brgy. 3;
  • Brgy. Lecheria;
  • Brgy. Halang; and
  • Brgy. Real

With the DILG IV-A’s support, the Gardenia Plastic Collection Drive Program serves as a significant milestone that strengthens the Department’s commitment in ensuring clean and green communities as well as stronger linkages between local government units and the private sector.
