DILG: More Than 2,700 Residents Preemptively Evacuated as Super Typhoon Nando Intensifies
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reports that as of 7:50 PM today, a total of 935 families or 2,777 individuals have been preemptively evacuated across Northern and Central Luzon due to the threat of Super Typhoon Nando.
The Department commends LGUs and frontline responders for acting decisively, underscoring that preemptive evacuation is both a duty of government and a responsibility of communities to safeguard lives.
Current reports show evacuations in CAR (Apayao), Region I (Ilocos Norte), Region II (Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya), and Region III (Aurora). The largest numbers of evacuees were recorded in Cagayan (679 families/1,975 individuals), Aurora (113 families/359 individuals), and Apayao (100 families/306 individuals). More local governments continue evacuation operations in high-risk communities.
The DILG has urged LGUs to strictly enforce preemptive and mandatory evacuation in barangays highly susceptible to storm surges, flooding, and landslides. LGUs are likewise reminded to implement liquor bans, observe the no-sail policy, and ensure that evacuation centers are adequately prepared with food, water, and health facilities.
Residents in danger areas and low-lying communities are strongly urged to heed the call of the DILG to voluntarily comply with preemptive evacuation in order to prevent loss of lives. The Department emphasizes that homes and property can be rebuilt, but lives lost can never be replaced.
