The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) expresses its gratitude to the Metro Manila mayors for heeding the appeal of the Department for a moratorium on the confiscation of drivers’ licenses and supporting the single ticketing system which will be implemented in the first quarter of 2023.

During a meeting on Saturday with the Metro Manila Council, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO), we have secured the commitment of the Metro Manila local chief executives to pass an ordinance supporting the single ticketing system and deferring to the LTO the authority to confiscate licenses as the leading law enforcement agency in implementing traffic laws and the safety of the motoring public.

Under the said system which is still being finalized, Metro Manila LGUs will forward their traffic violation citations to the LTO which will, in turn, record and tally such violations as part of its demerit system. If a motorist is found to have ten traffic violations, his or her driver’s license will be suspended.

The system will also prescribe a uniform schedule of fees for traffic violations incurred which can be settled at the nearest Bayad Center or bank.

We hope the upcoming implementation of this system will put to rest issues on the confiscation of licenses and will lead to better enforcement of traffic rules and regulations for the benefit of motorists and commuters alike.

Kaisa ninyo po ang DILG, ang Metro Manila Council, MMDA at LTO sa patuloy na pagpapatupad ng batas trapiko at pagtataguyod ng mahusay na transportasyon sa Metro Manila.
