Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) is expected to conclude its investigation this week into the deaths of Ateneo student-athletes in Aurora, with the filing of appropriate charges before the Department of Justice (DOJ) targeted on Friday.

Remulla said the two-week investigation is now in its final stages after investigators interviewed nearly 100 individuals and compiled more than 1,200 pages of testimonies.

“This investigation has been going on for the last two weeks. We’ve interviewed almost 100 people at mayroon kaming mahigit 1,200 pahina ng testimonya galing sa mga nandoon. Halos kumpleto na kami,” he said.

“Conclusive na at very confident sa case buildup ang CIDG,” he added.

The DILG Chief said only a few remaining personalities are scheduled for interviews, including former players and representatives of Ateneo management to complete the remaining aspects of the case build-up.

“Sa Biyernes, isusubmit namin ito sa DOJ para sa filing ng kaso. Hintayin na lang ninyo ang huling pagsusuri at ipapaliwanag namin sa inyo kung ano ang nakita namin sa investigation na ito,” he said.

The DILG earlier directed the PNP-CIDG to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Ateneo student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili in Dipaculao, Aurora on June 8, 2026, including the examination of possible violations of Republic Act No. 11053, or the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018.
