Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Wednesday debunked widespread social media claims that fugitive Senator Ronaldo “Bato” Dela Rosa had been arrested, stressing that law enforcement authorities continue to pursue the former police chief.

In an ambush interview, Remulla categorically denied reports alleging that Dela Rosa had been arrested and transported to The Hague in the Netherlands, describing the claims as baseless rumors and unfounded online noise.

“On behalf of the PNP (Philippine National Police), we would like to confirm, categorically, that as of 6:00 PM last night (August 7, 2026), there has been no arrest for Senator Bato,” he said before proceeding to the Early Childhood Care and Development Council meeting.

Dela Rosa was last seen leaving the Senate of the Philippines on May 14, 2026, accompanied by Senator Robin Padilla, following a highly publicized reappearance after months of absence from work.

Remulla said the DILG is closely coordinating with the Philippine National Police, the Department of Justice, and other law enforcement agencies to locate the fugitive senator.

“Senator Bato is being hunted down,” he added.

The DILG chief disclosed that Dela Rosa was last monitored in Mindanao and assured the public that authorities would remain transparent throughout the operation.

“Wala kaming secret operations na hindi malalaman ng tao. We are always transparent on what we do.”

He added that once Dela Rosa is apprehended, authorities will strictly observe all legal procedures and established protocols in accordance with the rule of law.

Remulla also said authorities have yet to determine the source of the false reports, lamenting that “fake news has taken a life of its own.” He likewise called on the media to help curb the spread of misinformation by ensuring that only verified information reaches the public.
