Remulla echoes PBBM's Call: PNP must act, make Filipinos feel safer
Do your job. Make people feel safer.
This was the marching order given by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to intensify police visibility.
In his first podcast last May 19 2025, the President underscored the need for police visibility, saying that cops should regularly patrol the streets to ensure faster crime resolution and make Filipinos feel that law enforcers are in the vicinity to protect them.
During his early morning visit to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, Remulla said higher crime clearance and solution efficiency rates as reported by the police hold little weight if ordinary citizens do not feel secure. “Ang gusto ng ating Pangulo ay may koneksyon ang statistics ng pulis sa pakiramdam ng tao,” he explained.
“Hindi na puwedeng statistics lang. Kailangan paggising at pagtulog ng mga tao dito sa Pilipinas, ay nararamdaman nila na ang public safety is number 1,” he added.
He said people who go home late at night or go to work early in the morning, or those in their homes should not be worried about their safety. “Ayan ang aim natin. People must feel safe. People must feel that the police are protecting them. People must feel that their communities are safer than before,” he said.
Meanwhile, the PNP-NCRPO presented to Remulla its Intensified and Recalibrated Police Visibility Program. Under the program, 21,532 police personnel will be deployed across Metro Manila to intensify street-level visibility and boost public confidence in the police force. Some 240 community volunteers will also be mobilized to serve as force multipliers and aid in law enforcement.
The recalibrated visibility program is expected to show tangible results within three months.
Remulla likewise observed a simulation exercise at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) demonstrating their three-minute response capability under Project AURORA (Automated Unified Response of Risk Agencies). The QCPD regularly conducts these simulations to refine rapid-response protocols and enhance coordination in emergency situations.
The DILG Chief also conducted field inspections of the police stations in Bonifacio Global City, Mandaluyong City, and Anonas to ensure their operational readiness.
Remulla assured the public that this initiative is not a temporary campaign but part of a sustained and comprehensive strategy to address criminality in Metro Manila and the whole country.
