Remulla: Government goes all out to boost tourism
In support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s directive to elevate Philippine tourism, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla assured that the government is working on all fronts to make the Philippines the leading tourist destination in Asia.
Speaking at the 3rd Hotel Sales and Marketing Association (HSMA) Sales and Marketing Summit on Friday, Remulla said the whole-of-government approach is in motion to strengthen the tourism sector by ensuring peace, order, and responsive governance.
“The President is working very hard to restore the institutions of governance and the rule of law, which are essential in addressing longstanding injustices. And that is the backbone of what we would do for the tourism industry,” he said.
Remulla emphasized the DILG’s priority programs in public safety, including the upcoming launch of the unified emergency 911 system, nationwide installation of CCTVs, and procurement of patrol vehicles to improve emergency response capabilities.
“We have to work together. Count on us. Count on the President. We are committed to making the Republic of the Philippines a better Philippines. We are here together, we are partners in this progress, and tourism is the key to our development,” he added.
The DILG Chief also shared his insights from visits to Southeast Asian neighbors, reaffirming that the Philippines stands out not only for its natural beauty, but also for its people.
“The Philippines is the most beautiful country with the best people. Filipino hospitality is world-class, and you can feel it even overseas—from our kababayans working in hotels and restaurants as front desk staff and waiters,” he said.
Remulla called on tourism stakeholders to continue collaborating with the government, underscoring tourism as a pillar of national progress.
