Remulla Highlights Reforms, Rising PNP Trust in DILG New Year's Call

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Wednesday cited reforms and improved public trust in the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the New Year’s Call at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame.

Remulla expressed pride in leading the Department and in the performance of the PNP. “I am very proud to be associated with the fine members of the Philippine National Police,” he said. The Secretary noted that public trust in the PNP increased from 71 percent when he assumed office to 80 percent in the latest survey.

He also commended the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) for achieving zero backlog in administrative cases. “Ang zero backlog, ibig sabihin, kung nasa hanay ng PNP, basta magkaroon ng admin case, justice will be swift,” he said.

Remulla likewise praised the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for the implementation of the Unified E911 Emergency Response System. “Ngayon buong mundo, may isa lang ang numero na kailangan at napakalaking tulong nang ginagawa nito,” he said.

Addressing BFP personnel, the DILG chief stressed that reforms are institutional and aimed at addressing corruption. “Hindi ako galit sa inyo. Galit ako sa corruption,” he said.

Remulla also reiterated his commitment to high standards in governance and accountability within the Department. “Please expect the standards that I impose on myself, I will also impose on you,” he said.

He concluded by calling on DILG personnel to place national interest above self-interest. “Unahin natin ang bansa bago ating sarili,” he said. “I am very proud of all of you. I am very proud of the Department.”
