Remulla: PNP creates TF29 to crack down cops in P6.7B drug haul

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla said that the Philippine National Police (PNP) had created Task Force (TF) 29 dedicated to cracking down on the 29 cops who were issued active search warrants for criminal cases in the supposed P6.7-billion drug haul in Manila in October 2022.

“May task force na si Gen. (Rommel Francisco) Marbil para makuha lahat ng mga accused, lahat (ng) may warrant of arrest. Sabi niya within this week makukuha niya lahat,” Remulla said.

He also commended the leadership of PNP Gen. Marbil for their accomplishments in the anti-illegal drugs campaign which was executed in accordance with the law.

“Marami silang accomplishment, marami silang nahuhuli except iba lang ang mentality (ng publiko) ngayon dahil walang namamatay, nasanay silang may namamatay eh kaya they feel safer kung may namamatay eh, when in fact it is more dangerous kasi kahit inosente pinapatay noon eh. Ngayon ang kinukuha talaga ay mga guilty lang, sinisigurado sila,” he added.

Remulla explained this in an interview at DZRH Damdamin ng Bayan on Thursday morning.

Earlier this week, Remulla revealed that 41 more cops were held administratively accountable for the said drug incident.

According to the DILG Chief, the Department of Justice (DOJ) is set to file new cases on collusion and conspiracy against the implicated personnel which are non-bailable offenses.

Remulla also stressed that they would go after rogue cops who taint the good image of the larger majority of the 225,000- strong police force in the country.
