HON. EDUARDO M. AÑO
Secretary of the Interior and Local Government

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), together with its attached agencies, offers its sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of former DILG Undersecretary Wencelito Andanar who succumbed after a long bout to liver cancer yesterday, April 22, 2021.

Usec. Andanar left an indelible mark on this Department as an official dedicated to the improvement and welfare of Local Government Units and the general public. He will be remembered in the DILG as one of its most dynamic undersecretaries who served with conviction and integrity from 2001 to 2007. Foremost among his positions in government was his appointment by President Rodrigo Duterte as Special Envoy to Malaysia last 2018, the last post he held in government service. Despite battling his own health problems, he helped in the repatriation of overseas Filipinos in Malaysia during this pandemic.

Known to many as “Wency”, his work and life has inspired many in their own personal quest to serve the public, including his own son PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar who will carry his torch now that he is gone. We are honored to have known and worked with him in improving the lives of our people, promote good local governance, and ensure public order and safety in our country. I am honored to have known him as a close friend.

Rest well in the arms of our Lord and Creator, my friend and colleague in public service. You will be missed dearly.
